Best Redwood Forest Near San Francisco?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008
Jason R asked:

My family and I are planning a visit to California this summer. I am a forester, so I want to see the giant redwoods in addition to the giant sequoias. My family would rather visit tourist destinations in San Fransisco, while I would rather see the trees. They refuse to travel to Redwood National Park due to the distance from San Fran. In your opinion, what is the best redwood forest or park that is within a couple hours of San Fran?

Will the San Francisco 49ers ever go back to their traditional uniforms?

Not a Player asked:

I am a die-hard 49ers fan as well as a purist when it comes to team uniforms. The 49ers have won 5 Super Bowls where they have worn their traditional uniforms (1994 SB was won wearing their throwback uniforms). I simply believe that it is the team attitude as well as the talent that wins you the big games, but I also believe that a measure of the teams success also has to do with the uniform that they wear. Does anybody out there know if the 49ers will ever revert back to their traditional uniforms they had before the 1996 season. No offense to the fact that you have to be progressive and sell jerseys, but the Yankees won, I think, 26 World Series and they have never changed their uniforms. Also, a lot of sports teams have also gone back to their old school uniforms. I am open to all suggestions. So you football and 49er fans out there let me know what you think. And, is there a way to petition the league or the team to go back to their traditional uniforms.

I like the way the San Francisco Giants are shaping up for the 2007 season?

It’s going to be interesting to see what Bruce Bochy brings to the table. One of the main areas I’m really interested in watching is how they do with runners on base. The Giants have very little difficulty getting guys on base but they were routinely leaving 7-8-9 or more men on base through the last couple seasons.

I think the pitching staff is shaping up fantastically. I think the Giants gained much more with Zito than they lost with Schmidt and the starting rotation (at least 1-4 look pretty solid). Having Correia and Hennessey as anchors for the bullpen is solid and I think Worrell could do well as closer or set-up man.

The Giants have had a very solid defensive team for two years running and I’m glad they didn’t mess with that - especially the infield. I’m happy to see Aurilia back and I think he can do well at first base.

Hopefully Barry will return to form and be worth that 16M. And Klesko might prove to be a great pick-up especially playing for his old coach.

Go Giants!

In which San Francisco bar/hotel/restaurant can I find flocked wallpaper for a photo backdrop?

brvalentine asked:

I’m looking for a good place to take pictures with a couple friends, and we really want some beautiful flocked wallpaper as a backdrop. You know the turn-of-the-century Edwardian decor with some flowery felt pattern in a really vivd color on a contrasting background? We’d prefer something like a deep red on gold, but some other deep color like blue or green would be cool too. We’re in San Francisco so we think there must be some post-1906 walpaper awesomeness in the vicinity. Mr. Smith’s bar and Club Wazemia come to mind, as well as the Winchester mansion, but San Jose is too far away. Can anyone suggest another place with awesome flocked wallpaper, or just awesome wallpaper period? Bonus if I can find pictures on flickr to see what you’re talking about. Thanks!

Do you agree with this Widow She Wants San Francisco Sanctuary Law Changed After Illegal Charged With Murder?

Free Bird asked:

A San Francisco woman whose husband and two sons were gunned down last month — allegedly by an illegal immigrant who remained in the city despite previous crimes — is demanding the city do something about its sanctuary law.

Danielle Bologna was widowed on June 22 when Edwin Ramos, 21, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, allegedly gunned down her husband, Anthony, and two sons, Matthew and Michael, in a road rage incident when her family was returning from a picnic.

Ramos has been charged with three counts of murder in the case, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“It was a senseless crime, and had they done something this animal would not have taken my family,” Bologna told FOX News on Monday. “I feel that the government should have stepped in. I feel that they allow these immigrants to come in and how dare they strip our families like this.”

The Chronicle reported that Ramos was convicted of two gang-related felonies while a juvenile and remained in San Francisco because the Juvenile Probation Department did not alert federal authorities. San Francisco’s 1989 “City of Refuge” ordinance prohibits city agencies from contacting the feds on immigration matters. The newspaper also found that federal officials knew about Ramos’ immigration status in March when he was arrested on a gun charge, though they couldn’t tell the Chronicle why they didn’t put an immigration hold on Ramos.

Bologna blames the city.

“It should have been resolved at the beginning, when this guy had done more than one crime in the city,” she told FOX News. “I want justice. I want the people to see: If my family wasn’t safe, what makes you think yours will be?”
