What is it like to have “standing room only” tickets for a San Francisco Giants game?

Monday, March 24th, 2008
san francisco giants
BB asked:

Do you just wander around where ever you want? Are there designated places you are limited to stand in order to watch the game? Are these tickets better or worse than the equally-priced $10 “view reserved outfield” tickets, way out in the corner of the stadium of the upper deck?

Thanks!
If you have a “view reserved outfield” ticket for the same price of $10, wouldn’t you get all the benefits of a “standing room only” ticket, plus have a seat to use if you wanted? So what’s the advantage of “standing room only” over “view reserved outfield”?

Or does “standing room only” somehow allow you to stand in areas that a normal ticket does not?

What are some non-profits that promote literacy in the San Francisco Bay Area?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008
Wishing for a peaceful new year asked:

I would like to become involved in a non-profit that promotes literacy/reading for children and/or adults. I emailed a First Book.org for the San Francisco Bay Area but never received a response. Other than the local library, what are some other avenues that I could pursue?

Places like Reading is Fundamental is currently not accepting any volunteers in California. Suggestions?

I had heard about it since January…but not in the appropriate context….why would the reps wait until after votes couldnt be changed to release it…..???

anyways….its funny how whoever the media is backing generally doesnt get slammed …but the one they dont want, gets wiped across the carpet….it happens every dam time!

Stupid Drunk and Stone guys Taunted Tiger, causing the tiger to kill 2 of them, at San Francisco Zoo?

Stupid Drunk and Stone guys Taunted Tiger, causing the tiger to kill 2, at San Francisco Zoo

Police say tiger mauling victim Kulbir Dhaliwal 24, Paul Dhaliwal 19 then killed Carlos Sousa Jr., 17 The three yelled and waved at the tiger but insisted they never threw anything into its pen to provoke the cat, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Paul Dhaliwal said, the three stood on a 3-foot-tall metal railing a few feet from the edge of the tiger moat. Paul’s foot print was found near the moat confirming his stupidity. “When they got down they heard a noise in the bushes, and the tiger was jumping out of the bushes on him (Paul Dhaliwal),”

Toxicology results for Dhaliwal showed that his blood alcohol level was 0.16 - twice the legal limit for driving, according to the affidavit. His 24-year-old brother, Kulbir, and Sousa also had alcohol in their blood but within the legal limit.
All three also had marijuana in their systems, Kulbir Dhaliwal told police that the three had smoked pot and each had “a couple shots of vodka” before leaving San Jose for the zoo on Christmas Day, in their affidavit to police.

Police found a small amount of marijuana in Kulbir Dhaliwal’s 2002 BMW, which the victims rode to the zoo, as well as a partially filled bottle of vodka, according to court documents.

Who do you think should halpend to Paul Dhaliwal? Should he be feed to the lions?
Hey michr, keep in mind at the time it the moat was built , it WAS up to code. The new requirements were changed long after the Zoo was built. Hens the reason the Zoo did not have to comply.
Its apparent that michr and Barry C are the same person and that is the only way that they have got the top contributor status.. Yes the Tiger attracted a zoo staff member in December 2006 but it was inside a feeding cage when the staff employee distracted, turned his back on a TIGER while feeding him!!!! — A TIGER!!!! If you’re going to keep a wild animal, all bet are off. A WILD animal is going to look for any opportunity. And yes, I have been following the story accurately.

The Zoo relays on the contractor to build to specs, whom ever inspects and sign off is on the now liable. In this case it was built right and the updates are at the detection of the zoo. Unfortunately the zoo losses and the biggest looser is the tiger.

What do you think State sues feds for not enforcing immigration law Claims Colorado at high risk of terrorism?

Cartman asked:

DENVER (KWGN) — U.S. District in Denver heard arguments from a federal government attorney today, who asked the court to throw out a State of Colorado lawsuit against the federal government. The State of Colorado is suing the federal government for not meeting its constitution obligation to protect states from invasion. The lawsuit was approved by Colorado voters who passed Referendum K last November. Referendum K gave the state permission to sue the federal government to enforce immigration law. It passed with 56% voter approval. Six other states have tried similar lawsuits and six times the lawsuit was thrown out of federal court. But Colorado’s District Attorney’s office said it is taking a different tack.http://cw2.trb.com/news/kwgn-state-sues-feds,0,6071773.story?coll=kwgn-home-2

In 1995, the Texas Governor’s [yes, as in George W. Bush] press secretary, Karen Hughes, issued a statement regarding Bush’s support of a legal appeal by Texas Attorney General Dan Morales [Texas v. United States, B-94-228 (S.D. Texas 1995) 95-40721 (5th Cir.) (pdf file)], to recover $1.34 billion spent by his state on the incarceration and education of illegal immigrants. Karen Hughes wasn’t speaking without authority. In 1995, when Gov. Bush was suing the United States’ Government for $5 billion, he said:”If the federal government cannot do its job of enforcing the borders, then it owes the states monies to pay for its failure.”

That’s right, when George W. Bush was Governor of the State of Texas, he sued the federal government for reimbursement of the costs of incarcerating illegal aliens, yet there are millions more illegal aliens in the United States now than when Bill Clinton was president. And when campaigning for president in 1999, George W. Bush issued this statement:
[Federal expenditures would be more effective] “…at the front end, to stop people from illegally entering our country, not at the back end, by reimbursing states after it has failed to enforce the border.” [I] “would allocate additional resources to enforcing the border, so states such as Texas and California would not have the huge expenses they currently do.” (San Francisco Chronicle, Sept. 9, 1999)
